The Prime Minister and Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Mr. Dinesh Gunawardena, stated in Parliament on 08.11.2023 that a cabinet paper has been prepared to get provisions allocated for revision of pensions and action is being taken to obtain approval for it. He said that Rs. 67,608 million is required annually for the revision of pensions of all pensioners who retired before 31.12.2015 and from 01.01.2016 to 01.01.2020.
"Even though the government made efforts on two occasions to revise the pensions in accordance with the provisions of Public Administration Circular No. 03/2016, a delay occurred in performing the task due to the inability to allocate sufficient funds in the face of the financial and economic difficulties, the change in the priorities of the government and also due to the policy of the government to provide adequate relief to all the pensioners, but it has not been neglected,” said the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister stated this, replying to a question asked by the Member of Parliament, Mrs. Rohini Kumari Wijeratne, on 08.11.2023 in Parliament.
